Naegleria Fowleri Claims 10th Victim in Karachi This Year: Urgent Preventive Measures Advised
A tragic incident occurred in Karachi as another individual fell victim to the brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri on Monday, bringing the total death toll in Sindh for this year to 10.
Sindh Health Department’s spokesperson, Shabir Ali Babar, reported that a 22-year-old student named Muhammad Arsal Baig, who resided in North Karachi District Central, lost his life to this deadly amoeba. Muhammad Arsal was admitted to a private hospital on October 27, where his PCR test confirmed the presence of Naegleria.
In response to this concerning situation, the Town Surveillance Coordinator has been tasked with collecting water samples from the affected area at the request of the victim’s family.
The spokesperson also urged the general public to take precautions against Naegleria. It is advised to add a recommended amount of chlorine to the water by following the advice of experts in order to stop this harmful amoeba from spreading.
